DO HOME EDUCATION STUDENTS HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITY AS PUBLIC AND NONPUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
TO ENTER A COLLEGE OF THEIR CHOICE?
Yes, depending on the student's qualifications and the admission requirements of the postsecondary institution. In order to understand the specific admission requirements of a postsecondary institution, home educators should directly contact the admissions office of the institution in which they have an interest and ask what are the specific admissions requirements for homeschoolers. Each college has their own admissions requirements for homeschoolers.
For example, below you will find the Dallas County Community College General Admissions Policy and admissions requirements for First Time Students. (This information was accessed on 11/19/2012.)

WHAT DOES A DIPLOMA MEAN?
In general, a diploma is a certificate by which a person or organization certifies
that the person named on the diploma has successfully completed a program of study.
A high school diploma certifies that a student has successfully completed a program
of secondary education.
WHO MUST SIGN THE DIPLOMA?
Because the diploma attests to the fact that the student finished his/her
high school program, it should be signed by someone who exercised authority
over the student's high school program and who has verified that the
student successfully completed the program. In the case of a homeschooled
student, the parent is generally the appropriate person to sign. The
home is the actual school of record.
CAN A PARENT SIGN A DIPLOMA EVEN IF HE/SHE DID NOT PERSONALLY TEACH ALL THE
CLASSES?
Yes. For a homeschooled student, the parent signs the student's high
school diploma. Only the parent knows if the student truly accomplished
what the parent required. Even if persons outside the family taught the
student, the parent will still know if the student accomplished what
was required in the class.
CAN MORE THAN ONE PERSON SIGN THE DIPLOMA?
Yes. There may be several people equally qualified to sign the diploma, such as
both parents, in the case of a homeschooler. Additionally, other persons can sign
the diploma as witnesses to verify the fact that the diploma was issued, but this
is not essential.
HOW CAN I ORDER A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND TRANSCRIPT?
We will provide the parent with a transcript record of all courses successfully
completed, using Homeschool of America Curriculum materials, which includes the
results of tests and assessments FREE OF CHARGE. The parent may print a transcript
directly from our online program. The parent can also order a high school diploma
from the HSLDA Store at

WHAT IS A HOMESCHOOL PORTFOLIO?
A home school portfolio is required by most states, in order to document
what type of curriculum was taught during the year, tests that were taken,
projects and assignments, field trips and any other activities that contributed
to the child's education. Our Teacher Guide provides you with a full
set of easy-to-follow instructions on how to create and maintain a student
portfolio.
